Are you looking for a new career path in a place with progression at its forefront and a unique working environment unlike any other? Does the idea of sitting behind a desk all day bring you an instinctive yawn while a customer-facing role produces a smile? Then the Leeds Bradford International Airport could have just the role for you.

Currently recruiting for both full time and part time Aviation Security Officers, this is your chance to make an impact on the experience of thousands of people as they undertake their journeys. An involved and busy role, the smooth running of the airport and the encounters of everyone who passes through it can all come down to an effective security team.

Kate Spink, Talent Acquisition Manager for the airport, would have to agree.

“The security team are very much fundamental to the running of the entire airport and to our customer experience. They’re ambassadors of the airport so we need people who have very strong interpersonal skills, who enjoy talking to people, who are passionate about working for an airport.”

Wharfedale Observer:

Over the course of a working day, your task will be to welcome people into the airport, getting people through from air side to land side. All of the security checks on the passengers, whether that be searches, baggage checks or tray loading will also be part of the job description. You’ll patrol the airport, be responsible for checking all the identification of the passports, and use the x-ray machines with full training provided.

With such a varied and diverse job description it’s little wonder that no two days are the same. As Kate explains, “With it being a high-security position we have to have people who want to be in that type of role, who can deal with incidents on site, have access to restricted areas; it’s not an everyday kind of security position, you’re not just patrolling a shop, it’s an involved and busy role.”

Wharfedale Observer:

With great responsibility does come some great benefits. As part of the team at Leeds Bradford International Airport you’ll be entitled to:

  • Free parking
  • Pension scheme
  • Full training
  • Free lounge access
  • Access to rewards and discounts at the airport concessions
  • 24-hour employee assistance
  • Career development

For many working at the airport however, it really is the people who can make this job and the organisation one of the best.

“The thing that people talk about the most when they’re in that team is the team atmosphere that they’ve got, the people that they work with become true friends. Added to that is the chance to get to meet all kinds of people from all walks of life and getting them started on their holiday journey.”

Career development is another big benefit. With a keen focus on developing peoples skills and careers internally, a position as part of the security team may well not be the only role you’ll hold at the airport.

“There’s a structured progression path within security, but we’ve also had people move to all different parts of the airport, in fact our current HR Manager actually used to work in security. Whether it’s HR or air traffic control, once you’re in the airport it’s really easy to move into different positions.”

If that weren't enough of an incentive, the lucky applicants who secure the positions would even be up for a Summer Retention Bonus, so long as they began working for the airport before June.
