Steve Clapcote, Labour I’M 42 years old and your Labour candidate and work as a medical scientist at Leeds University.

I am seeking election because I care passionately about our area, and have enough experience of life and working in the world to do the job well.

My local priority as your MP would be to ensure that Shipley gets the investment needed to improve our schools and transport infrastructure, build more affordable homes, and deliver high-quality vocational training for young people in partnership with local businesses.

Developing a high-skill, high-wage economy is important for our future prosperity.

Philip Davies, Conservative SINCE first being elected as the local MP 10 years ago, I have always pledged never to accept a promotion and always stay on the backbenches so that I can speak out in the best interests of my constituents.

That is a pledge I make again at this election.

If re-elected I will continue to support local residents in both Menston and Burley-in-Wharfedale, fighting attempts by Bradford Council to concrete over our precious green fields to prevent the planned housing developments.

And I will also work hard to ensure we get the extra school places needed in Wharfedale – particularly at secondary school level.

Darren Hill, Yorkshire First BRITAIN is not working: some of the poorest areas within Europe are located within the United Kingdom.

For us at Yorkshire First, making Britain work, involves building a more democratic, engaged and accountable Yorkshire, in which all who are born herein or choose to live here are proud to call themselves citizens of Yorkshire.

A democratic and accountable Yorkshire parliament would allow us to rebalance the economy away from the South East of the UK, and build a thriving Yorkshire that works for all our people.

Yorkshire First wants a stronger voice for the county with similar powers to Scotland, not independence.

Andy Martin, Liberal Democrat AS a father to a young family, I’m most concerned about adequate funding for our public sector services while remaining financially responsible.

We are the only party committed to achieving that balance.

Our record in government is something of which we can be proud: lifting thousands of people out of income tax, improving pensions and protecting funding for education.

Our NHS is a treasured public service and safe in Liberal Democrat hands.

We’ll invest the £8bn the NHS says it needs to maintain high-quality care, free when needed. Neither of the other main parties has done this.

Kevin Warnes, Green Party KEVIN Warnes, 49, has been a Shipley ward councillor on Bradford Council since 2004.

He lives in Shipley with his partner and two daughters, both of whom attend a local secondary school.

He also teaches politics and history at a sixth form college in Leeds.

Kevin is determined to “challenge the Government on the need to deal with climate change and improve the quality of life in our communities”.

If he is elected as Shipley’s new MP, he has pledged to campaign for a Green New Deal for the Shipley area, for more support for our local shops, and for a living wage for all.

Waqas Ali Khan – UK Independence Party (UKIP) I HAVE proposed to improve the rail links in the Aire Valley and Wharfe Valley region, connecting people to commute efficiently, decreasing congestion both on the trains and roads throughout Skipton, Bingley, Bradford and Leeds.

I am here to take on the challenge and represent Shipley constituency and with your support on May 7 we will make Bradford a better place.

Bear in mind that I am the only parliamentary candidate who has addressed more local issues within the region, whereas the other candidates are focused more on national issues to help them get elected.
