ALL 64,000 primary school children across Leeds will be entitled to free school meals under plans announced by Greg Mulholland and the Liberal Democrats.

It will more than double the offer of free schools meals to all infant school pupils that the Liberal Democrats delivered in government.

From last September, all reception, year one and year two primary school pupils in England began receiving free school meals, including 26,797 in Leeds.

Extending free school meals for seven to 11-year-olds will benefit 1.9 million more children and save parents around £400 per child a year.

Pilot studies have shown introducing free school meals improves results and leads to children eating more healthy food.

Greg Mulholland, the Lib Dem candidate for Leeds North West, said: “We want every child to have the best possible start in life.

“That’s why I want every child to have a hot, healthy school lunch.”
