A WHARFEDALE MP has been given a key role supporting the new leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) has been appointed as Tim Farron's campaigns chairman.

The Otley-based MP, who co-ordinated Mr Farron's leadership contest, will be responsible for ensuring Mr Farron's and the party's top priorities receive national publicity.

Mr Mulholland said: "I am delighted.

"The Liberal Democrats have already shown in recent weeks we are the only party who will consistently fight for a fairer society, much needed reform of our political system and basic human rights.

"My task now is to take this message nationally. I will be proud to lead the charge on this and work alongside our dynamic new leader to help deliver the Liberal Democrat fightback."

Mr Farron added: "I am delighted to be able to announce my team of party spokespeople.

"It features some of the best campaigners the party has, balanced with the experience and economic credibility our party has developed during the past five years in government.

"Greg Mulholland has proven time and again he is a solid campaigner. His constituents know it and so do people right across the party. That’s why I’m proud to appoint him as my campaigns chairman.

"I could not think of a better person to oversee and push our national campaign priorities."

The Lib Dems lost 49 seats in the election, leaving them with just eight MPs.
