A WHARFEDALE MP has laid a wreath at the Cenotaph in memory of those involved in rugby league who have died in service to their country.

Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West), who chairs the Parliamentary Rugby League Group, took part in a remembrance service in London on Friday.

The Armed Forces ceremony was led by Vice Chief of Defence Staff and President of Great Britain Armed Forces Rugby League (GBARFL), Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach.

RFL chairman, Brian Barwick, and Denise Edwards, of the Royal British Legion, also attended, while Challenge Cup finalists Leeds Rhinos and Hull Kingston Rovers were represented by their chief executives, Gary Hetherington and Mike Smith, and players Jamie Jones Buchanan, Liam Sutcliffe and Terry Campese.

Mr Mulholland, who is also vice-president of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, said: "To my mind, this ceremony represents the best of rugby league.

"Above all else, rugby league is a family, and we look after one another.

"Like any family, we remember those we have lost, and this is both a poignant ceremony and a fitting tribute to those in the game who have done so much for the country and for us."
