PUNCH and Judy, fairground stalls and traditional games will be among the entertainment on offer in the Parkinson's Park Children's Gala this weekend.

The event, from 2pm to 4.30pm on Sunday, will also feature Guiseley Brass Band, vintage tea, a plant stall, raffle and tombola.

The gala is the fourth to be organised by the Friends of Parkinson's Park and will take place in the park on Kelcliffe Lane. It carries on the Guiseley tradition started by Crompton Parkinson’s in the 1940’s.

In this year's children's dressing up competition youngsters are being urged to come along as their favourite historical characters - and there will prizes for the best dressed.

A spokeswoman for the event said: "We do still need some more community minded people to come and help make the day as 'Gala Makers'. Roles include helping with set up, and take down, manning a stall, and serving refreshments. If you are willing to help out please email The Gala Organising Committee at parkinsonspark@gmail.com."

The Friends of Parkinson's Park will also be showing some of the findings from their Heritage Lottery Funded, All Our Stories project.

There will be a walk around the park at 1.30pm on September 13, to talk about the history of the area as part of Heritage Open Days events. Booking is essential via parkinsonspark@gmail.com. There is also a Heritage Open Day walk around Guiseley’s historic village centre at 10.30am on September 10. Booking is essential on 01943 876713.
