A CREATIVE villager has modelled her own small-scale version of Addingham Library.

Grandmother Wendy Green created the miniature replica of the interior of the community-run library as a 'thank you' for allowing her to display her dolls houses in the window during the summer.

Her project coincides with efforts by library workers to get renovation plans off the ground.

Using several photographs for reference, Wendy set about recreating the layout of the main room in a 'room box', as well as making miniature bookshelves, stacking them with tiny books, and even making a computer desk, accurately reflecting the public facilities on offer in the library.

Wendy says she got into the hobby earlier this year.

She added: "For years, I had wanted to furnish a dolls house to pass onto my granddaughter when she was older, but as I now have four granddaughters, one house wasn't enough!

"So I started buying them cheaply to do up, but soon realised the cost involved. It's very expensive to not only buy the furniture, but you have to think of all the accessories you have in a house. So I had to try making the things I couldn't afford to buy.

"The great thing is, though, I enjoyed making things more and got much more pleasure out of having a go than buying it."

On the library project, she said: "I have done a few boxes now, and decided I had to do the library as a thank you.

"I took a few pictures of the interior for reference at key points and tried to recreate it the best I could. I did leave out the central aisle bookcases, as all the books I made are individual and took ages."

The room boxes themselves were built by her husband, Terry.

Carol Hindle, of Addingham Community Library, said: "We have been amazed and delighted at her attention to the smallest detail and very impressed."

Volunteers took over the running of the village library from Bradford Council in 2011, and those behind the charity are now looking at improving the interior.

Carol added: "We are hoping plans for renovation of the library interior are imminent. We have worked as volunteers for four years now, and our fundraising has always been towards our renovation plans."

The scheme includes new windows, rewiring and redecoration.
