JUST over three per cent of homes in the Shipley parliamentary constituency – which includes Burley-in-Wharfedale and Menston – have ultrafast broadband, according to latest figures.

House of Commons library data shows 3.3 per cent of properties have internet speeds of at least 100Mbps.

The constituency is the only one in the district boasting ultrafast connections.

And 92 per cent of homes have superfast broadband, defined as speeds greater than 24Mbps.

That compares to 89 per cent in Keighley.

The Government pledges that by the end of the year, 95 per cent of households will have superfast broadband.

Shipley MP Philip Davies said: "Good internet connections are vital to businesses and our local economy and I am pleased some of my constituents have ultrafast speeds.

"Too often areas outside of city centres get left behind, but I am pleased to see we are leading the way across the Bradford district.

"Having said that, three per cent is a very small minority and we need action to increase access.

"I want to see 100 per cent of my constituents and businesses accessing superfast broadband, not 95 per cent, by the end of the year.

"As it stands eight per cent of my area does not have sufficient speed and that needs to change."
