A MAN, woman and child remain in hospital today following a serious house fire in Pool-in-Wharfedale, last night.

A neighbour, who was walking his dog, spotted smoke coming from the house in Wharfe View and acted quickly.

The man alerted other neighbours and the small group together entered the property and rescued a semi-conscious man, who had received 25 per cent burn injuries.

The Fire Service Control Room received a 999 call shortly before 11pm and sent engines from Otley, Rawdon and Cookridge.

Four firefighters in breathing apparatus rescued a woman and a female child, who were unconscious, from a top floor bedroom.

District Commander for Leeds Russ Hepton said: “The actions of the neighbours are truly courageous.

“They have entered the house despite there being a serious and developing fire inside, without prioritising their own safety.

“They came across the man, who has suffered serious burns, and were able to get him outside to safety.

“Neighbours also guided the fire engines into the scene and crews acted swiftly to rescue the woman and child and gave them oxygen at the scene to assist their breathing.”

All three casualties were transported to hospital by ambulance.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing today.
