A PASS Wide and Slow campaign ride to raise awareness on how to pass horses and riders safely is being held this month.

On September 19, 188 awareness rides, including one in Guiseley, will be taking place to highlight the correct way to pass horses and riders on the road and to highlight the safety concerns these vulnerable road users face.

British Horse Society statistics state that nearly two horses are killed each week on UK roads.

A spokesperson for the campaign said: “The ride is all about being safe and saving lives. We all want to share the roads safely with other users and by slowing down to 15 mph and passing wide and slow, where it is safe to do so, motorists greatly increase the safety of, not only us vulnerable road users, but themselves too. It is impossible to get to bridleways without having to ride on the roads and education is the best way to keep everyone safe.”
