GUISELEY and Rawdon councillors are paying for two new Speed Indicator Devices in their ward.

The SIDs will be placed on Netherfield Road and Queensway.

Cllr Paul Wadsworth said: “I believe that permanent SIDs are a sustainable way of consistently reducing and changing driver behaviour, much more effectively than pop-up speed traps. It is a little-known fact each SID device records the speed, date and time of each passing vehicle. Where possible and depending on funding, I would like to fund more of the devices across the ward so the data can be analysed to show where they are most effective or not, and pass this information to the police to step up patrols.”

Cllr Paul Alderson added:"Typically, these devices are moved around the ward periodically to avoid complacency from motorists. By funding these extra units, we are able to cover more locations simultaneously without the need to remove a device from a known hotspot. They are vital pieces of kit in keeping our roads safe.”

Cllr Graham Latty said:“We are committed to keeping the roads safe in Guiseley and Rawdon. A key way of doing that is to make sure drivers are aware of the speed limits and stick to them."
