FURTHER progress is being made on Pool-in-Wharfedale's 20mph scheme.

Leeds City Council says a legal order has been drafted and is ready to be advertised. The proposals will be advertised for a month and, as long as there are no objections, the scheme will be set to go ahead.

A speed indicator device is being arranged for Arthington Lane. This will initially be programmed for 30pmh if the scheme is not yet in place and will later be changed to 20pmh.

The 20mph speed limits will include Main Street and Arthington Lane despite initial doubts about this.

Last year Adel and Wharfedale councillor Barry Anderson said he was pleased that progress had been made to include Main Street and Arthington Lane in the proposed 20mph speed limit for the village.

He said: "It has taken some time to get to this point because it seemed that Main Street and Arthington Lane would not be included, the reason given was that A-roads could not have 20mph speed limits but residents were able to give examples of other areas in the Leeds district had managed to do this."

Further speed surveys were carried out by Leeds City Council's Highways Department to enable the scheme to be advertised.
