PEDESTRIAN improvements are being proposed for Silver Lane and Ivegate in Yeadon.

A bid for funding for the improvements was put in by Otley and Yeadon ward councillors Colin Campbell, Ryk Downes and Sandy Lay. The schemes have now been put out to public consultation.

Cllr Campbell said: "We put in a bid to the Town Centre improvement fund about five years ago to fund pedestrian improvements at the bottom of the High Street. Following discussions with residents and a delay caused by Covid the present scheme has finally been drawn up.

"It will involve widening the narrow pavement on Silver Lane and making a level crossing point at the Town Street junction. This was requested because at the moment pedestrians have to use some steep steps so those with mobility problems are avoiding the businesses in the area."

"A 20 mph limit is also proposed for Ivegate," said Cllr Downes. "This will extend the one already in place on High Street and Silver Lane and will improve road safety and reduce pollution."

"These measures plus refurbishment of the railings on Town Street (The Steep) will make the area more pedestrian friendly and help the businesses in the area," said Cllr Lay.
