Ilkley's Adrian Bastow has arrived in Canada to prepare for the 2014 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in Edmonton.

While Bramhope's Jonny Brownlee will be bidding to win the World title in the men's elite race, Bastow will be competing in his age group standard distance race next Monday.

The 47-year-old, who only took up the sport seven years ago, has always been a keen sportsman and is a member of the Triathlon England, which is the National Governing Body for the sport in England, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

He has competed in numerous events which have included the Liverpool Triathlon Championship in 2013, and the Ironman in Nottingham.

His hard training regime has rewarded him with a place in the GB Team, of which he and his family are very proud.

His wife Julie said: "This is an amazing achievement and a once in a life-time experience to compete with some of our best athletes.

"The races are to be televised by the BBC so hopefully we might catch a glimpse of him running in his race."

Bastow travelled out to Canada on Sunday but arrived in Edmonton minus his bike which had hone astray during transit.
