Yarnbury 53 Heath 37

NEWLY-promoted Yarnbury moved up to third in Yorkshire Division One with another encouraging performance at Brownberrie Lane.

Heath struck the first blow when fly half Ezra Hinchliffe rewarded their bright start by landing a penalty.

Referee Ian Hallam of Pocklington was to have a big influence on the game and after 15 minutes he awarded two yellow cards to Heath.

Yarnbury utilised their two-man advantage to create the space for winger Ellis Gomersall to score a fine try.

The winger was to score twice more in quick succession to complete his hat-trick. First Jason Avison broke free in midfield and drew the defence before setting Gomersall clear.

Then, Henry Griffiths secured possession at a maul and swift passing put the winger in for a try near the posts which Oliver Hardaker converted.

Yarnbury were in command and gained the bonus-point try when they stole a Heath line-out before setting up a try for Avison.

Avison’s celebrations were short lived as he pick up the next yellow card for a deliberate knock on.

Heath seized their chance to reduce the deficit with a try by former Ilkley player-coach Hamish Pratt which Hinchliffe converted..

The final moments of the half saw Yarnbury score again. A dropped pass by Heath saw Hardaker demonstrate his footballing skills before sending the supporting Ben Horner in for a try under the posts.

There was just enough time left in the half for Hinchliffe to reduce the deficit to 29-13.

The second half was two minutes old when Yarnbury winger Horner bludgeoned his way towards the Heath line to set up Avison for a try which Hardaker converted.

Yarnbury seemed to ease off and consequently the next score went to Heath. Good support play by the pack saw hooker Puttick score a try whichHinchliffe converted.

Moments later Hinchcliffe added a further penalty and with the score was 36-23.

The home supporters were beginning to wonder if an upset was on the cards but on the hour, Avison intercepted a pass and ran in a fine try.

Yarnbury went further ahead when full back Stuart Wilson came into the line at pace and created a try in the corner for Lee Mortimer.

Replacement back row Russell Gomersall joined the fray and was immediately yellow carded.

Two minutes remained when James Falgate drove towards the line and fine link-up play by Hardaker put Horner in for a try which Hardaker converted.

Heath had the final say with a second try of the game for Hamish Pratt with the immaculate Hinchliffe adding the extras.
