GUISELEY are set to be without star striker Adam Boyes for at least a fortnight.

The Lions' leading marksmen, who has scored nine goals in 16 appearances, aggravated an ankle injury during his side's 3-0 FA Cup fourth qualifying-round defeat at Grimsby last Saturday.

Guiseley manager Mark Bower said: "Boyesey is a big part of our team and you could see him struggling with the ankle at the start of the second half after he went over on it. He probably wasn't fully fit in the first half."

The Lions were already missing centre halves Danny Ellis and Danny Hall but there was at least some good news from the visit to Blundell Park.

Bower revealed: "Their replacements, Danny Lowe and Jake Lawlor, were probably our two best players and stood up well to what was thrown at them, although it disrupts midfield by taking Jake out of it."

An added bonus before sixth-placed Guiseley's trip to second-placed Barrow on Saturday is that Alex Johnson, who has been troubled since the end of last season with a foot injury that has been difficult to diagnose, played the whole of the first half in Tuesday night's West Riding County Cup penalty shoot-out defeat at Selby Town.

"He looked fit, considering he hasn't played for so long, and I am pleased that he came through," said Bower.

"Although he is likely to be in the squad for this weekend, it will be weeks before he is back up to speed in terms of match fitness."

Bower is under no illusions about the toughness of Saturday's trip to Barrow, adding: "This is probably the most difficult game of the season, from a league point of view.

"Barrow have invested heavily, have people who have played at a higher level and are going to be right up there at the end of the campaign.

"They are on a decent run, and their home form is good, but it is a chance for us to bounce back."
