Pool 4 Thornhill 2
POOL consolidated their position at the top of Division One with this win which was more convincing than the scoreline suggests. However it was Thornhill who took the lead, their centre forward having time to power a low shot through a mass of players and past the unsighted Michael Tosney in the Pool goal.
Pool then showed why they are league leaders with some excellent flowing football which was rewarded via an equaliser headed home by Max Drake.
A penalty soon followed, but Tom Flemming's well-taken kick produced a superb save from the Thornhill keeper, who was on hand to foil Flemming again, just keeping out another fine strike.
Pool continued to dominate, but a rare mistake by Tosney almost let the visitors in, a couple of goalline clearances by his defenders saving his blushes.
He soon redeemed himself with an excellent point-blank save before Pool's took charge, Nick Hewitt firing home as the keeper came to challenge. The unfortunate keeper was unable to continue due to an injury sustained in the collision.
A superb strike by Grant Bligh soon gave Pool a two-goal cushion, then a fine move down the left resulted in a cross to Matthew White who controlled with his first touch and finished equally confidently.
A last minute goal, direct from a free kick gave Thornhill some late consolation.
Carlton Athletic also won and now lie second three points behind Pool on level games.
In The West Yorkshire Alliance Division 2, Pool Reserves. ran out easy 4-1 winners in the local derby at Otley Town Res. Their goals came from Toby Rake (2), Jamie Algar and Harvey Atkinson.
