GUISELEY boss Mark Bower is still seeking to add “one more player” to his squad following the acquisition of striker Tom Craddock.

Former Luton, Portsmouth and Oxford star Craddock last week became the club’s third new signing of the close-season following the arrivals of Adam Lockwood and Will Hatfield.

The 28-year-old played for the Lions in last Saturday’s 3-1 friendly defeat at Bradford Park Avenue.

Bower believes Craddock can prosper at Nethermoor after an injury-ravaged which saw him released from Pompey in May.

The Lions boss said: “Tom has obviously had a couple of injuries to get over, but he’s back training for a few months now and we’re getting him at the right time.

“He’s 28 and he can get back to doing what he does best, which is scoring goals.

“We want him to stake a claim for a regular first-team spot because that’s why I’ve brought him into the squad.

“It’s all about creating as much competition for places as possible because we certainly need that going into the higher league.

“We are still trying to get one more player in, but there are no names as yet and we’ll keep looking to see what’s out there.”

Darlington-born Craddock boasts an impressive pedigree after coming through the youth ranks at Middlesbrough, where he made his debut in the Premier League against Fulham in May 2006.

Bower added: “I’m confident he’s got the qualities to fit into the way we play and I’m sure he’ll be a success for us.

“It’s obvious we’ve been a bit short at the top end of the pitch and Tom’s got good quality into feet, he brings other players into play and his goalscoring record is top notch so hopefully we can get the best out of him and he can enjoy his football again.”

Bower is confident his newly-promoted side can prosper in the top tier of non-league football and is aiming higher than mere consolidation.

He said: “We want to win games, starting from the opening game of the season at Welling United on Saturday week.

“I’m confident we have got players who can win us games at this level.

“The first target is to get ourselves and up to the 50-point mark.

“Let’s see how quickly we can do that and take it from there.

“We’re certainly not going into this league looking to fight relegation.

“We’re going into it to give a good account of ourselves.

“The players that we’ve brought in have certainly strengthened us and should enable us to do that.”

The Lions travel to Curzon Ashton in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday before their league opener at Welling seven days later.
