Yarnbury 8 Brodleians 52

IT is fast becoming a tough season for Yarnbury as they suffered another resounding Yorkshire One defeat at Brownberrie Lane.

Although they welcomed back Ellis Gomersall on the right wing and had captain Oliver Cashman reverting to scrum half, they are being hurt by the absence of a number of experienced players.

Brodleians recruited well in the off season with centre Samoan Manu Tusiga and American prop Jack Crickmay boosting their side.

From the first Yarnbury attack Brodleians stole the ball on the left and ran the ball deep into the home half and centre Tusiga scored in the corner. Stand off Danny Wood converted.

Yarnbury went straight back up the field with second row James Falgate using his basketball experience to catch the kick off. Brodleians were penalised for killing the ball but stand off Gerard Huss missed the touch with the penalty and the chance was lost.

Brodleians broke away down the left for winger Phil Towns to score the second try. At this stage Yarnbury took the game to the away side running the ball well and stretching the play to the wings but Gomersall was not left with any room to attack.

When he was brought down short of the line an infringement gave Huss the chance to reduce the lead with a penalty.

Winger Town added a third try when No 8 Owen Ackroyd managed to recycle the ball in midfield.

Yarnbury were defending ferociously towards the end of the half with the back row of Tom Gilchrist, Ethan Perkins and Russ Gomersall working hard with their tackles but substitute back row Cameron Wroot touched down out wide for Brodleians and Wood again added the extras.

The second half continued in the same vain with Yarnbury working the possession wide without having any penetration.

The visitors increased their with a try by prop Alex Dawson which Wood converted.

Yarnbury finally scored a try when stand off Huss forced his way over the line but missed an easy conversion which seemed to sum up the home side's efforts.

As Yarnbury tired they were reduced to using substitute utility back Stephen Riley in the second row for the injured Ian Maycock.

Brodleians were not finished and ran in further tries from Wood and two by substitute Ben Barron to round off the scoring.
