Yorkshire Division Two: Old Grovians 10 Roundhegians 11

OLD Grovians led for all but the first five minutes and the last ten but ended up with a losing bonus point.

A reshuffle at centre and fly half due to unavailability did not unduly seem to concern the hosts against their fourth-placed visitors, and Matt Worrall – in defence and attack – and Joe Garforth, for his work-rate and carries, shone in the home pack.

Roundhegians took the lead with a 14th-minute penalty, but Grovians constantly coughed up possession from knock-ons and strong tackles when in sight of the line, winger Dean Hogg being caught five metres from the line after a slip.

Joe Harrison then forced the Leeds side into an error and, from the quick tap, Roundhegians were penalised for not being ten metres back, Harrison slotting over the kick for 3-3.

That became 10-3 from the restart when James Yates put the ball over the line despite the attentions of two defenders, Harrison adding the conversion.

Roundhegians landed a second penalty before half-time but the hosts gave a strong second-half performance, again often getting to within ten metres of the line only to fail with the final play.

Chris Blackhall was stopped five metres out, and the probing Jack Hartley couldn't find a gap either, despite the visitors having a man sin-binned.

Typically, Roundhegians went to the other end and scored the clinching try with their only attack of the half.
