FOLLOWING a personal best at the Manchester Marathon six weeks ago, Scott Harrington travelled to the Windermere Marathon on Sunday in great form, hoping for further success at this distance.

The hilly and somewhat challenging course proved no match for Otley AC’s Harrington, who won the race, three minutes clear of his nearest rival, in a time of 2:36:33.

The first lady was Tracey Dutton (Wigan Harriers) in 3:08:53. Andrew Rayner also took part in the race, finishing in 4:57:04.

Tom Lynch and Tom Pomfrett also travelled over to the Lake District at the weekend to take part in the Old County Tops Fell Race, a 56km paired route which take in the peaks of Scafell Pike, Helvellyn and the Old Man of Coniston.

Weather conditions were not favourable, with constant rain and poor visibility in places. Lynch said: “We entered the race for the challenge, so getting a fast time was not so high on our list of priorities. Running as a pair helped keep up the motivation even in torrential rain and gusty wind and we managed to finish about an hour and half before the 8pm cut off time.”

They completed the course in a time of 10:30:54. The winners were Paul Tierney and Matt Reedy (Ambleside AC) in 6:53:51
