TEAM JCT600 with GardX increased their lead of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship with a determined performance at Silverstone on Sunday.

Rawdon's Sam Tordoff extended his lead of the drivers’ championship with three points finishes while team-mate Rob Collard took his BMW 125i M Sport to the WSR-run outfit’s 15th podium of the year.

With six points finishes out of six, Team JCT600 with GardX re-took the lead in the teams’ championship while WSR increased their advantage in the manufacturer/constructor points with just the Brands Hatch finale on 1-2 October remaining.

After qualifying 16th, Tordoff battled hard to finish 11th in Race One while carrying the BTCC’s maximum 75kg of success ballast. Another 11th followed in Race Two before the 27-year-old rose to sixth in Race Three, keeping his nose clean in tense circumstances.

Hampshireman Rob, who began the weekend 31 points behind Sam in fifth place overall, made a rocket start to Race One to move up from 24th on the grid to 15th by the end of the first lap.

He continued his progress throughout the race and was rewarded with a seventh-place finish; a result he repeated in Race Two.

From second on the grid, he finished third in the final race of the day; his sixth podium of the 2016 season. The result ensured that Rob goes to Brands Hatch just 17 points behind Sam in the championship.

Tordoff said: “If you’d told me after qualifying that I’d have increased my championship lead here, I’d have bitten your hand off. I didn’t get many points in races one and two, so in race three I had to do something, and the car was the best it had been all weekend, which gave the opportunity to attack and sixth was an OK finish.

"I’ve been reasonably fortunate that the closest guys to me in the championship have also had it tough today. But now we go to Brands Hatch GP – my favourite circuit and one that should suit the BMW much better than Silverstone – for the finale with an 11-point lead and I intend to enjoy it.”
