OTLEY opened their National League Two North season with a 38-15 loss at Sedgely Park on Saturday.
Joe Rowntree kicked a goal to put Otley 3-0 ahead on two minutes.
Sedge struck back three minutes later with a Daniel Maher try, which was converted by Stephen Collins.
Maher extended the home side’s lead on 15 minutes with a second Maher try, again converted by Collins.
Otley hit back on 23 minutes with an unconverted try by Brandon Staples and Sedge went into halftime with a 14-8 lead.
A Robert Holloway try, converted by Collins, extended Sedge’s lead to 21-8 on 48 minutes.
Otley closed the gap three minutes later when Samuel Taylor crossed the whitewash. Callum Irvine added the extras to make it 21-15.
But when Andrew Riley scored a try for Sedge on 64 minutes followed by another converted try by Matthew Riley, the home side came away with a 38-15 victory.
