POOL, at the second attempt, have gathered enough support for a special general meeting of the Aire-Wharfe League.

The club are unhappy that their second team have been relegated from Division Four, despite finishing eighth of the 12 teams.

Pool want the two-up, two-down system to be retained.

However, they want to amend rule 2.4 (ii), taking heed of last season’s league tables, that prevents any club from being re-positioned to take into account any new clubs joining the league.

The proposed rule change amendment will be the only topic for discussion at the Aire-Wharfe League sgm at Otley RUFC on Wednesday, March 8 (8pm).

Two new clubs have joined the league this season - Bingley Congs from the Craven League and Rodley from the Bradford Premier League.

Both of their first teams are currently in Division Four.

Burley seconds and Saltaire seconds were both, as per rule, relegated from Division Four as a result of finishing bottom and second from bottom respectively.

However, the league could not relegate the third-from-bottom club as St Chads Broomfield firsts failed to gain sufficient votes to be re-elected and were therefore no longer part of the league.

That led to Pool seconds, who were fourth from bottom, being relegated.

Pool’s initial attempt to force an sgm was kyboshed after they had sufficient support when some clubs of the 10 clubs changed their minds and withdrew their backing, with Pool believing that some of the clubs had been coerced by the league into altering their stance.

They now again have the 10 clubs backing them that they need, including Burley, Horsforth, Ilkley and Thackley.
